Youth project set to take over at police station

A new Rugby League club has been set up in Mansfield Woodhouse in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour and give youngsters something constructive to do during the summer.

The Sherwood Wolf Hunt RLFC will operate from the Lords Ground, in Slant Lane, and will be sponsored by Crimestoppers.

Training will commence in early March and organisers Adam Bates and Richard Tempest-Mitchell are encouraging players from around the Mansfield area to sign up.

“It will be great to built a brand new Rugby League club in the North Nottinghamshire area, to give players who are new to the game or who have previously played, the opportunity to get involved,” Richard said.

“Rugby League is a fast-growing game across the country and here in Mansfield we have the type of players that can succeed in this fast and exciting game. “

The club also hopes to establish tag rugby for younger children, which will be run through the Rugby Football League.

Sarah Smithurst from Crimestoppers Nottinghamshire said: ‘It will be great to support a new community rugby club that will provide healthy exercise over the summer.
