LETTER: Warsop facing more neglect and decay?

It appears to be acknowledged that many people in our district believe that Warsop has not had a fair deal from Mansfield District Council ever since Warsop Urban District Council was abolished in the early 1970s following local government reorganisation.

The latest catastrophe in my view is the impending closure of Warsop Sports Centre. There appears to me to be a lack of desire to commit necessary funds to Warsop, especially during this period of national Government cutbacks. Mansfield District Council has set up a talking shop, with no financial commitments, to discuss the future of Warsop.

Mansfield District Council ha also invested £23.9million on infrastructure projects out of the district. Coun Kate Allsop, Mayor of Mansfield (and of Warsop?) in a letter (Chad, November 8) justifies this expenditure decision by stating “The reason for solid investments is to make us financially sound and able to deliver the services that people expect. I want hotels, bigger shops, and a vibrant market......but most of all, I want Mansfield to be the best it can be”. No mention of poor old Warsop.

Is the town (not village) of Warsop to suffer yet another decade of financial neglect with the consequent inevitable decay?
