LETTER: It's a mistake to avoid lessons of the past

Denis Ball (Chad November 1) needs to read my letter (October 18) more carefully. He accuses me of looking backwards and not thinking about our town.

On the contrary, I wrote about electrifying the railway with a direct link to London and Sheffield, ending low pay, reversing cuts in health, education and housing.

I pointed out how the Tories and the Tory MP talk about these issues but, in my view, do nothing about them. Judge him by his actions, he voted to keep the pay cap for public sector workers.

Why does Denis Ball try to avoid the past?

In my opinion the Tories only care about the rich and they should not be trusted to protect jobs in Mansfield, let alone run the country.

In my view if the MP knew a little more local history, he would not have allowed Marston’s to name a beer after him.

That is the same Marston’s that acquired Mansfield Brewery… and closed it down.
