LETTER: Increase in police should help fight crime

The people of Nottinghamshire can breathe a sigh of relief that the police force is on target to increase officer numbers to 1,950 by April 2019.

Our police forces nationwide are under-funded and a stronger police presence on the streets is badly needed to fight crime and to give people a sense of reassurance.

The latest figures in Nottinghamshire show an increase of 58 officers compared to April 2017, which gives a current total of 1,909 officers, with 200 being more recruited this year and into next year.

The recruitment drive has been rigorous – hopefully, these extra officer will help support our communities and fight crime.
