LETTER: Free parking in Ashfield will become a reality

Parking bays in South Shields.

Labour at Ashfield District Council is continuing to work on election pledges.
Over the summer we introduced our successful free swimming programme to children and young people.

We have also started working on our cleaner streets pledge by agreeing changes in policy on dog-fouling fines.

Our next pledge to become a reality will be free parking in Ashfield.

The process of introducing any changes in policy is not simply agree at one meeting and implement the following day.

There is a process which involves a report being written, a discussion at Labour group, then agreement at a cabinet meeting followed by a period of notification, using various media outlets, plus the necessary changes to signage etc.

At our cabinet meeting on Thursday, October 8, our car parking pledge will be officially discussed and a decision made. This means the likely implementation date will be late November or early December 2015, in time for Christmas shopping.

I look forward, as I’m sure many Ashfield residents will, to this pledge becoming a reality.
