I was reading with interest the letter in the Chad from the resident of Bellamy Road about the lack of amenities.
I moved to Bellamy Road 40 years ago.
Then we had a thriving club, a doctors’ surgery, chip shop, a paper shop, post office, three or four parks for the children and, I think, even a bookie’s .
That was 1976 and we were complaining then that we were the forgotten estate.
Move forward 40 years and all we have left is a grocery shop and a lot of broken promises.
The back of the houses on Clayworth Court have not seen a cleaner in years and the square on the back of Clayworth Court has not been resurfaced in at least 45 years, apart from what I feel was a bodge job a couple of years ago .
There used to be a drain to stop the square flooding in bad weather, which regularly got blocked by pebbles washed in by the rain. What was the council’s solution? It Tarmaced over it so now when it rains the kids getting a nice swimming pool .
The council sent us some plans a year or so ago, telling us about the fantastic things they had in store for Bellamy Road in the future , so please, for your own sake, don’t hold your breath.
