LETTER: Don Concannon was '˜great' local public servant

I feel Sid Pepper, in his letter to the Chad, got it wrong in saying that Don Concannon was not '˜local' and that he '˜dropped' into a safe seat in Mansfield.

True, he was born in Doncaster, but many years before he stood as Mansfield MP, he studied at Nottingham University, worked underground at Rufford Colliery, was an NUM official in Nottinghamshire and served as a local councillor.

He also lived and ultimately died in Mansfield after his retirement.

Mr Pepper’s comments will be offensive to those who knew, worked with or received support from Don.

A great ‘local’ public servant.
