It was the 15th Dance Festival staged at Sutton Community Academy, starring schoolchildren ranging from years three to 13.

Joining students from the High Pavement academy were younger pupils from other schools in Sutton, St Mary’s Church Of England Primary, Leamington Primary Academy, Priestsic Primary Academy and Hillocks Primary School.

The idea of the event was to showcase the talents of the youngsters and to provide something for the whole community to be proud of. Some dancers performed individual pieces choreographed by teachers.

Displaying all kinds of styles and abilities, the dancers took part in two shows. A matinee version was performed in front of everyone else taking part, so that they could inspire and support each other. And then in the evening, the main show was staged for a capacity audience of parents, family and friends.

A spokeswoman for Sutton Community Academy said: “The shows were a huge success. It was a wonderful atmosphere and great to see so many shining smiles, both on and off the stage.”

From the money raised, a donation was made to support Sutton Community Academy’s WE Fund. WE is a global movement that aims to bring people together, especially youngsters, to support projects that improve the world.
