Youngsters and trespassers told to stay away from dangerous derelict Mansfield building

Work will be carried out tomorrow (Saturday) to demolish part of the Grade II listed former Bath Mill, on Bath Lane, following an assessment by Mansfield District Council building control officers.

The building was vandalised over the Easter holidays to such an extent that it is now extremely dangerous.

Security fencing on the site has been removed by trespassers who have also damaged the building and made it unstable.

Following Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service being called to the site, the council will serve the owner of the building with a Dangerous Structure Notice under the Building Act.

The owner has already given permission for part of the roof and its supporting pillars to be demolished.

Today (Friday), the contractor visited the site ahead of tomorrow’s demolition work.

Bev Smith, director of regeneration and regulation at the council, said: “Parents are asked to ensure their children do not enter the site as it is extremely dangerous and there is a very real risk to their lives.

“The council is taking urgent steps to make the building safe and has advised members of the public of the dangers of entering this or any other derelict or dangerous building. Anyone who chooses to ignore this warning will be putting their life and the lives of others at risk.”
