Yellow lines put in at busy Kirkby junction

The double yellow lines have been put in at the junction of Lindley’s Lane and Urban Road after complaints about vehicles parking too close to the junction.

James Townsend, of Bennet Drive, flagged up the issue with highways bosses at Nottinghamshire County Council over a year ago, but it wasn’t until he turned to Gloria De Piero MP for help that action was finally taken.

Gloria said that people thought the junction was an accident waiting to happen,.

Residents have witnessed numerous near-misses involving cars and lorries turning right out of the junction which had to blindly pull out into oncoming traffic on Urban Road because the view was restricted by parked vehicles.

She said she was ‘glad’ she could help get the lines painted in.

James Townsend added: “People who live here will tell you that road was really quite dangerous before these new markings were put down.

“It’s a big relief these restrictions are in place and I’m very grateful to Gloria for taking up the case.”

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire County Council confirmed that the double yellow lines were painted last week as part of a junction protection scheme to improve road safety because people were parking too close to the junction.
