Would you foster a refugee? Readers’ reaction

Earlier this week Nottinghamshire County Council urged residents to consider fostering refugee children.

The request caused heated debate across our Facebook pages.

Here is what some of our readers had to say:

Vicki Maria Zurek wrote: “I would foster any child. It’s not the poor child’s fault is it? Every child needs to feel loved.”

Alison Argent said: “I’m sure there are plenty of children who were born here that need fostering, they should be priority.”

Serena Bannister commented: “I am a foster carer, so yes I would happily foster a refugee. I am full at the moment, but would definitely consider it when my eldest moves on into independence next year.”

Heidi Marie Burrett: “If we had the room I would seriously consider it.”

Kurt Egginton said: “Don’t want to be selfish but existing list first! Add refugees in the list, but just like housing, by priority.”

Samantha Bain Ferrol commented: “If I had space I would take ANY needy child.”

Heidi Hieckmann wrote: “Maybe if I didn’t have a child at home I would, and a spare room. Poor little things need some stability.”

Laura EvahAimee Durdy said: “I wouldn’t, got enough on with my twins, but I’m sure there’s plenty of people waiting to adopt.”

Marie Sarac wrote: “Yes and if I won lotto my money would go in helping make houses for them too.”
