Worksop driver high on drugs jailed after Clumber Park crash which killed 21-year-old friend

Emergency services were called just before 1.10pm on Monday 18th December 2012 to a collision on the B6034 Ollerton Road, adjacent to Scotland Farm, near Carburton, Notts.

The driver of the vehicle, Ryan Picksley-Wallhead, now 27, of Sunny Bank, Worksop, was injured during the collision in which Krystian Piotr Namlik, a 21-year-old passenger in the vehicle, suffered fatal head and chest injuries.

Picksley-Wallhead was arrested following the collision and was found to have quantities of ketamine and cannabis in his blood.

The red BMW coupe they were travelling in was also found to have three defective tyres.

He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to causing Krystian Namlik’s death by careless driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 6th November) to a total of four years and 10 months.

Picksley-Wallhead received four years for causing Mr Namilk’s death and a further six months for committing a dwelling burglary in Worksop in December 2013.

He also received a total of four months for various offences committed on 10 and 11 October 2014, namely an assault, criminal damage and possession of cannabis after which, despite his interim driving ban following the fatal collision, he drove a car intending to travel to Skegness.

Detective Constable, Paul Jaycock, said: “Ryan Picksley-Wallhead’s actions in driving his poorly maintained car at speed having earlier taken drugs cost his friend his life.”

“There was meant to be a joyous reunion the following day between Krystian and his family, who were flying in from Poland to spend Christmas with him.”

“It is impossible to imagine the devastation that this completely avoidable collision has had on the Namlik family.”
