Nether Langwith Parish Council has commissioned works to the River Poulter in the village which are due to stary on Monday 16th March.

A spokesman for the council said: “The driving force behind the works is a need to unblock and repair the culvert along the southern river channel and to carry out dredging works in both river channels in the public areas.

“This would rebalance the flow of river water through the village and reduce the risk of flooding along Queens Walk.

It would also restabilise the aquatic life in the southern river channel at the Green.

A highway gully on the northern side of the Green twill capture water that overflows from the surface water sewers on Fairfield Close after heavy rain and is a potential flood risk.

The 2007 flood resulted in serious damage to the children’s paddling pool and we would wish to repair this health and safety hazard and undertake further improvements to the pool.

The work is funded by Lafarge Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund via the Derbyshire Environmental Trust, Nottinghamshire County Council, Bassetlaw District Council, The Sir John Eastwood Foundation and

Nether Langwith Village Improvement Group.
