Work experience highlights career opportunities

Holgate Academy has two teams entering the Go4SET project this year.

Go4SET links teams of six Year 8/9 pupils with companies and universities to offer a 10 week science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) experience.

By providing a real and live STEM project, Go4SET will raise the pupils’ awareness and highlight the exciting future career opportunities in STEM.

Team 1 has chosen the ‘My School as an Island’ Project. This challenge is for the students to think of their school as an island and transform it so it can be a fully functioning island setting.

The project involves the students doing research about their school; how it receives energy and water, recycles waste, how students and staff travel to school etc.

Students will then write a professional report about their project and also make a 3D model of their modified school.

This will then be presented by the students to the Go4SET assessors at the Celebration and Assessment Day on Wednesday 19th March 2014 at Snibston Discovery Museum.

Team 2 have chosen the ‘Create Sport!’ Project. This challenge is for the students to look at creative, innovative but practical ideas for a new sports venue.

The project involves the students doing research about energy use, the impact on the environment and making the facility sustainable. Students will then write a professional report about their project and also make a 3D model of their sports arena.

This will also be presented by the students to the Go4SET assessors at the Celebration and Assessment Day.
