Work has commenced on a £1m affordable housing scheme in Southwell.
Award-winning, Loughborough-based contractor and developer, William Davis Ltd is developing eight homes at Fiskerton Road, to the south east of the town, in partnership with Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) and Newark and Sherwood District Council.
Situated on a Rural Exception Site, the two bedroom properties at Fiskerton Road will be available for affordable rent or shared ownership and will be constructed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.
Richard Vickery, head of delivery at NCHA, said: “These new properties are yet another example of NCHA working with local development partners to provide affordable homes for a local community.
“We’ve built many homes in the Newark and Sherwood district over NCHA’s 40 year history and we’re delighted to mark the start of the build of eight more.”
To mark the start of work, representatives from the project partners gathered on site to ‘turn the first sod’. Stephen Fisher, business development manager at William Davis, said: “We are pleased to once again be working with NCHA and Newark and Sherwood District Council to deliver affordable homes for Southwell.
“We hope these will demonstrate not only our solid track record with both partners, but also our expertise in this specialist area of rural affordable housing.
“We look forward to witnessing Fiskerton Road’s progress and its benefit to the local community.”
Adjacent a conservation area, the new homes have been designed to complement those within the neighbouring area and will have a ‘cottage-style’ appearance.
Funding for the scheme has been provided by Newark and Sherwood Council and the Homes and Communities Agency. Fiskerton Road is scheduled for completion in December 2013.
