Woman's fury at 'obstacle course' of Red Cross equipment left in her home

Dealing with the death of a loved one can take its toll on your mental health, but it shouldn't take it out on your physical health too.

This is the ongoing issue for 77-year-old Jackie Wells from Rainworth, who has been battling with the “obstacle course” of Red Cross equipment left behind by her late husband Michael.

Michael had loaned a number of Red Cross equipment to help navigate the house during his 12-year battle with Parkinsons, including a commode in the bathroom and a hoist for his bed.

However, when Michael died in September this equipment was left in Jackie’s house and the Red Cross cannot collect it until mid-November - leaving her dealing with both a mental and physical strain.

She said: “It is everywhere and is making me struggle navigating the house.

“I have contacted the Red Cross many times and they have said the earliest they can collect it is November 12.

“Every time I call them I say that it is inhumane making me look at it all the time and trying to get past it in the house.

“It reminds me all the time of him and I am desperate to get rid of it - but they just don’t seem to want to help.”

Michael died on September 14 and by the time the equipment is collected it will be eight weeks since his death.

Your Chad reached out to Red Cross for a response but were unable to get in contact.
