Rebecca Emma Wall admitted the assault in the car park of the Sunnydale Inn in Mansfield Woodhouse at around 10.30pm on New Year’s Day.

The court heard she had been out with friends since 3.30pm and had drunk about three pints of lager.

Lee Shepherd, prosecuting, said: “She went outside for a cigarette and saw two women who she did not know who were arguing.

“The victim said - ‘Why can’t people just get along?’

“She hit the woman in the mouth with her elbow and punched her in the chest while swearing at the other woman.”

Wall, 28, of Lawrence Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse, had one previous conviction for driving with excess alcohol in 2005.

Michael Little, mitigating, said: “This is entirely out of character. She couldn’t remember what happened because she was drunk.

“She said - ‘I don’t know this lady and there’s no reason for this lady to lie about me.’

“She said - ‘I don’t have any excuse but I am absolutely mortified. I would never do anything like that when I am sober.’”

Magistrates were advised that being so intoxicated did not mitigate the offence but was in fact an aggravating feature.

Mr Little said that Wall had worked full-time as a mental health support worker in Sutton for 11 years and was ‘well thought of’.

He said her employers were waiting for the outcome of the case before they made a decision about her future employment.

He added that the injuries sustained by Wall’s victim were ‘limited’ and said Wall very rarely drank alcohol.

A probation report said she was unable to carry out unpaid work requirements or submit to a curfew because of the shift patterns at her work and family commitments.

Magistrates fined her £350 and ordered her to pay £50 compensation, £85 court costs and a £35 victim surcharge.
