Bizarrely, temperatures are forecast to soar amid the “widespread” snowfall – with highs of 14C possible in Bakewell on Easter Sunday.

But forecasters say the white stuff will just keep on falling – so folk won’t notice any snow melting in the mild temperatures.

A Met Office spokesman said: “It may not have been a white Christmas but it’s looking like Derbyshire folk will experience a widespread winter wonderland this Easter.

“At the same time, it appears temperatures will rocket – it should actually feel quite warm in some places.

“However, the snow is set to fall round-the-clock over the long weekend, it’ll just keep on coming, so nobody will notice any of it melting under the mild, spring air.

“Warmth and snow – it promises to be a very strange, incredibly rare concoction.

“Derbyshire’s weather never fails to baffle us here at the Met Office.

“Even the chief forecaster is scratching his head at this latest forecast.”
