Where to mark Remembrance Sunday around Mansfield

Remembrance Sunday commemorations are planned around the area, with services taking place at churches and war memorials across the region to remember those who died in Conflict.

In Mansfield, a brief ceremony will take place at Mansfield Civic Centre War Memorial at 9.55am, which will include wreath laying, ahead of a parade to St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church for a service at 10.55am.

In Mansfield Woodhouse, a parade will leave the car park at Yeoman Hill at 10am, followed by a service at St Edmund’s Parish Church at 11am. After the remembrance Service, the parade will regroup on Castle Mews and return to Yeoman Hill Park.

A wreath laying ceremony will take place at Pleasley Vale memorial, as well as parades in Warsop and Forest Town from 12.15pm, starting at Carr Lane Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Warsop and Forest Town Welfare Club.

In Rainworth a parade starts at the Kirklington Road village hall at 10.15am, heading to St Jude’s Church for a service at 10.45am.

Bellamy Road Community Centre, Mansfield, will hold a service from 10.20am.

In Ashfield a parade will assemble at Portland Square in Sutton at 9.25am and head on to St. Mary’s Church for a service and a 11am wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph.

In Kirkby, a service will take place at 9.45am at St. Thomas’ Church, Kingsway, and people can then head to the town’s War Memorial to lay wreaths. Services in Stanton Hill and Skegby will begin at 10.30am, starting at All Saints Church in Stanton Hill and St. Andrew’s Church in Skegby.

St Katherine’s Church in Teversal will also be holding a service from 11am.

A parade in Huthwaite will begin after the 10am service at All Saints Church and end with a wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph.

The memorial in Selston will be holding a service at 9.30am.

Jacksdale will host two services - one at 10.15am in Ironville and one at 10.30am at the memorial on Main Street.

There is no formal service at the Pepper Gardens Memorial in Sutton but people will have the opportunity to law wreaths at the sight throughout the day.

Ashfield District Council is welcoming the public to join in any of the services. Remembrance Sunday is marked across the country and is attended by residents, as well as members of the Royal British Legion and other veterans’ organisations.

The Deputy Mayor joined veterans to launch the annual Poppy Appeal in Mansfield on October 27.

Poppy Appeal organiser Joe Martin from the Mansfield branch of the Royal British Legion presented the first poppy to Deputy Mayor Cllr Mick Barton at Mansfield Civic Centre.

Every poppy sold will help the Royal British Legion support bereaved families, wounded Service men and women, younger veterans seeking employment and housing, and older veterans needing age-related care.

Cllr Sean McCallum, Mansfield District Council's Armed Forces Champion, said: "The poppy appeal has always been, and continues to be a vital opportunity for the Royal British Legion to gather the necessary funds it needs for its charitable works during the forthcoming year.

"I wholeheartedly support the fantastic work they have done in our district and would encourage everyone to buy a poppy and wear it with pride"

Deputy Mayor Cllr Mick Barton, said: "It is always an honour to meet the veterans and the people who do such an amazing job collecting for this appeal. We must never forget the sacrifices of our Service men and women, who have given their lives for our futures.

"Every £1 donated goes towards a wide range of services and support for our veterans, serving personnel and their families, so please support this very worthwhile cause."
