WEATHER WARNING: Flooding and storms set to batter region this evening
The stifling summer heat is predicted to come to an abrupt end this evening as severe storms and downpours batter the region.
The met office has issued a weather warning, with up to 50mm of rain expected to fall in a matter of hours.
Isolated heavy thunderstorms are expected to develop on across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
These are likely to become more frequent later and spread northwards.
Up to 30mm of rain could fall in an hour, and up to 50mm over three hours.
Humid airmass moving up from the continent is being blamed for the forecast, with large amounts of energy generated in the atmosphere.
