WEATHER UPDATE: Mansfield and Ashfield miss St Jude the ‘worst storm since 1987’

The predicted gale force winds from St Jude, which were supposed to hit the area this morning, have remained further down south.

But the Met office is still on Amber alert of flooding for the region.

A flood warning is in place for the River Trent and tributaries in Nottinghamshire including the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Carr Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck, Thurgarton Beck, Fairham Brook and others.

At 4.20am this morning the Environment Agency reported possible flooding of low-lying agricultural land and roads from some of the tributaries of the River Trent. Areas surrounding the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Carr Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck, Thurgaton Beck, Fairham Brook and others may be affected by flood water.

The Agency said river levels are currently beginning to rise in response to rainfall overnight and further heavy rainfall and high winds are forecast over the next 12 hours.

The River Maun is at risk of flooding. Mansfield, The Sherwood Forest Caravan Park at Clipstone, Edwinstowe, Ollerton, Whitewater Lane at Whitewater Bridge and West Drayton may be affected by flood water.

The current level at the Mansfield The Dykes river gauge is 0.4 metres. River levels are currently beginning to rise in response to rainfall overnight.

Although Nottinghamshire has escaped the gusty weather, southern areas have seen gusts of 54mph. It is predicted the wind will pick up through this morning.

It was reported that Longdale Lane in Ravenshead was closed this morning because of a fallen tree.
