WEATHER: Gale force winds now expected in Nottinghamshire

Gales are now expected to batter much of the Mansfield and Ashfield area throughout tomorrow, the Met Office has warned.

Tonight wet and windy conditions are expected to sweep in from the east, and the stronger winds are expected once the rain clears early tomorrow.

Gusts are expected to exceed 55mph inland, with stronger winds in coastal areas - reaching 80mph in parts of Scotland.

A spokesman said: “The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel, especially as the strongest winds will coincide with rush-hour in places, and perhaps some damage to trees.

“Difficult driving conditions will result, exacerbated by surface water and spray.

“The public is advised to take extra care.”

A yellow ‘be aware’ warning has been issued across Nottinghamshire from shortly after midnight on Tuesday until around 6pm.
