Watchdog proposes £7,600 salary boost for country’s MPs

Proposals have been announced today to give MPs an 11 per cent pay boost.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority announced the proposals this morning, outlining an MP salary rise of £7,600 to £74,000 by 2015.

Many MPs have already spoken out as condemning the salary rise in such challenging economical times. But the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority said in its report that MP salaries are below other professionals and the increase from £66,396 will bring them in line.

Main party leaders have also challenged the increase with Labour’s Ed Miliband and Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg pledging to shun the prize rise.
