WATCH: More than 100 people queue to be among first through the door at new Aldi in Mansfield

Team GB gymnast Ellie Downie - who is coming back from injury so is not at the Commonwealth Games in Australia - opened the new Aldi on Oakleaf Close, off Southwell Road West, today (Thursday, April, 12).

The store will donate fresh fruit to the Oak Tree Leisure Centre as part of its “Get Set to Eat Fresh” initiative, which aims to encourage children aged 5-14 to develop a love for fresh, healthy food.

And to tie in with the campaign, the first 30 customers were treated to bags of free fruit and veg.

Ellie said “Maintaining a healthy diet is vital for me to perform at an Olympic level and Aldi’s Team GB partnership helps with that. I receive vouchers which allow me to stock up on fruit and vegetables, great for snacking between training.”

The new store offers a wide range of British-sourced goods.

Spanning over 1,254 sqm, the store has 125 parking spaces {and offer an enhanced, convenient and varied shopping experience.}

In a boost to the local jobs market, 23 new roles have been created with the store launch and Aldi is still recruiting for a variety of roles in the area, from store assistants to deputy store managers.
