A 35-year-old Warsop man who had sex with a girl of 14, has been jailed for two-and-a -half-years.
A judge told Robert McDonald, of Ridgeway Terrace: “You were a mature man taking advantage of a young girl.
“You knew you were breaking the law, which is there to protect young girls from themselves.”
McDonald, who spent two years in the Army, pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual activity with a child.
He initiated the sexual contact with the teenager, which began with touching, Nottingham Crown Court heard, and led to full intercourse.
In mitigation it was said McDonald had never been to prison before.
He had a partner of 11 years standing but was now ostracised.
Judge Michael Stokes, the Recorder of Nottingham, said the sexual activities had continued for many months.
In McDonald’s favour, said the judge, was the fact he had handed himself in to the police when he heard they were aware of his activities.
The judge said the starting point for the offences was a sentence of four years but that could be reduced to two and a half.
