Warsop car wash given approval despite petition

A controversial planning application for a car wash in Warsop has been approved, despite a 34-name petition to have it halted.

The proposal was to transform part of the car park of the old New Connie Club on Carr Lane.

With the business is already up and running, it was submitted to Mansfield District Council retrospectively.

However, there has been fierce opposition to the plans from locals, who wrote to the council objecting that the business had been running without planning permission.

They claimed people had been living in two caravans on the site, staff had urinated in public view and that damage had been caused to a nearby greenhouse through staff playing football.

They also raised questions about adequate drainage.

In the applicant’s defence, it was heard how staff toilets had since been provided, insisted no-one was living in the caravans and that they were both for sale. The applicant has also resolved the draining issue with the Environment Agency.

Members of the planning committee voted in favour of the plans, 10 votes to one, after discussing the matter at their monthly meeting.

Coun John Kerr, who is also chairman of Warsop Parish Council said: “The transformation has been first class.

“The owner is a very hard-working chap. I don’t recognise any of the objections raised so I’m happy to support the application.”
