WARNING: 26 vehicles broken into in Mansfield

Mansfield motorists are being warned to lock up after 26 thefts from vehicles in the area in just a fortnight.

Handbags, sat navs and tools were among the items stolen - most of which have been in Eakring, Mansfield Woodhouse and Forest Town.

And 15 of these thefts were from insecure vehicles.

A police spokesman said this is down to opportunistic thieves trying door handles.

He said: “Don’t make it easy for them.

“Lock your doors, secure your windows and sun roofs and make sure you remove items of value before you leave.

“Most of the incidents have taken place overnight, with thieves targeting vehicles parked both on the streets and on driveways.

“In some cases car parts, such as number plates and indicator lights have been stolen.

“Keep your eyes peeled for suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, especially individuals hanging around vehicles at night.”

“Keep your car in a locked garage, where possible, otherwise park in a well-lit area.

“We are actively targeting suspects and patrols have been directed to blighted areas.”
