War of words erupts after Kirkby Christmas carnival is branded a flop

A WAR of words has broken out between the organisers of the Kirkby Christmas carnival and Ashfield District Council after hundreds of angry residents were left disappointed by what has been branded as a ‘dismal’ event.

Friday night’s carnival, once considered to be one of the best Christmas lights switch-on events in the area, featured hardly any of its usual attractions, with no funfair rides, no carol singers and no street stalls.

Organisers Midland Events Club has blamed the council for putting up obstacles which prevented many of the planned activities from going ahead.

But the council has hit back saying that the Club did not submit its plans to the council in time for licences and events control agreements to be put in place.
