Loan man James Baxendale hailed a perfect Mansfield Town debut and promised there is more to come.
Baxendale hit a memorable long-range winner just hours after joining on a month’s loan from Walsall to cap a superb performance in Stags’ 2-1 win over Stevenage.
“I’ve scored a few spectacular goals before and it is something I am wanting to get back in my game,” he said.
“I want to keep scoring goals and to get Mansfield Town up the league table.
“I enjoyed it today and I just want to help Mansfield Town and to be able to get out on the pitch.
“It was a perfect debut on a personal level, We wanted to get those three points and climb the table.
“We put in a good display. The front four played well today and when you are playing with good players it makes things easier.
“League Two is what I expected it to be. It was furious in the first 15 minutes but we managed to get a foothold in the game and controlled it from there.”
Stags took the lead when Chris Clements curled a free-kick home from the edge of the box on 42 minutes.
It capped a good first half performance from Stags, which saw Clements and Westcarr go close.
Stevenage’s best chance of the half came when Michael Tonge hit the post with a 20 yards free-kick.
Tonge wasted a good chance to level when he headed wide on the hour mark.
Chris Day kept the visitors in it a minute later when he blocked a Craig Westcarr strike.
But there was nothing he could do when Baxendale fired a perfectly placed effort past him on 65 minutes.
Armand Gnanduillet hit a consolation goal for the visitors with the last kick of the game.
