Wages still behind in Ashfield

The new figures compiled by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that male workers’ wages in the constituency lag well behind when it comes to the amount of cash they once took home in 2010 - which was £498.10. By 2014 this had fallen substantially to £461 which is £37.10 less a week than four years ago.

For female employees in Ashfield the statistics also paint a depressing picture after revealing their wages are yet to catch up to what they once were in 2010 - with the average weekly wage now standing at £311 a week.

This means women in the constituency haven’t had a pay-rise in four years and would need a paltry rise of at least £1 week before their pay packets were back to what they were under the last Labour Government.

Commenting on the figures, Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero said: “Far too many women in Ashfield have been working harder under this Government just stay afloat and for blokes it is even worse because wages have actually gone backwards.”
