VW Golf taken in bizarre vehicle-swap deal in Mansfield car park

Police are hunting a man who drove off in a vehicle he had been looking to buy following a bungled swap deal at a Mansfield supermarket car park.

The victim had taken his white Volkswagen Golf to Mansfield Leisure Park where he had arranged to meet with a man driving an Audi A3.

The plan was for the Golf owner to part exchange his car for the Audi, plus give the Audi owner a quantity of cash to finalise the deal.

But the Golf owner became suspicious when he met the man and decided to opt out of the deal.

However, the Audi owner then quickly drove off in the Golf taking the money and the log books for both vehicles.

The offender, who is described as mixed race, left the Audi with the victim.

The incident happened on the evening of Monday, September 26.
