Residents of Strawberry Bank were fed up with the overgrown trees and hedgerows which had been spoiling the view from their houses which are located on the highest natural point in the county.

After being told by landowners NCC that there was no money in the budget to carry out the work they asked local councillors Lee Anderson and Glenys Maxwell to look into it.

Councillor Anderson said: “It was obvious that there was little chance of getting the work done as residents had been asking for years.

“After knocking on a few doors in the area we were soon able to get together a team of volunteers who agreed to do the work.

Under supervision of Alex Moorehouse from ADC over 20 volunteers gave up their weekend to help finish the job.

Coun Anderson added: “This was a fantastic effort from a fantastic community. We will be out again most weekends on similar projects in Huthwaite and Brierley. It’s also about getting your hands dirty and getting stuck in.”
