A man and his dog were rescued after a cement mixer overturned on a Derbyshire road this morning.

Firefighters from Chesterfield and Staveley were called to Lavant Close, Brimington, at about 7.40am.

The crews gained access through the sunroof of the vehicle to free both the driver of the cement mixer, 51, from Chesterfield, and his dog, which was sat alongside him in his cab.

The dog is believed to be fine.

One Lydden Close resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I heard all the sirens as I was having breakfast.

“You don’t expect this to happen on your street.”
