Calls have been made for a road safety investigation after the second fatal crash on the same road in five weeks.

Peafield Lane was criticised on social media as a ‘horrible’, road after a motorcyclist was killed on Saturday, March 11.

No other vehicles are involved and authorities are investigating the safety of the road, as the crash comes only five weeks after 16-year-old Lewis Crouch was killed on February 3.

Mum Cheryl Broughton said: “Yet another accident. Just over five weeks ago we lost our son on that road. Something needs to be done.”

Witness Michele Gooding, 54, was first on the scene.

The grandmother of three, a cook from Mansfield Woodhouse, said: “I saw the bike and somebody was on the grass verge. My heart fell when this happened. I’m just thinking about the family and how hard it must be for them at this time. I think speed cameras should be in place - I know it’s a 50mph limit along that road but I’ve seen many overtaking, be it a car or motorcycle."

Resident on the road, Patrick Kielty, 32, has led calls for more enforcement as Peafield is plagued by dangerous driving.

"Whinney hill is now seen as a short cut around the lights, so cars go screaming up there, and there is a twit that power-slides out of the side road every day and evening."

Nottinghamshire County Councillor for Peafields, Joyce Bosnejak said she will make sure an investigation into the safety of the road is undertaken.

She said: “We need to examine the road surface to determine in both instances if the road had any part to play. I’m really concerned by this and we know that people do speed on this road, and the speed limit doesn’t always slow traffic.

"I’m sure the family is extremely distressed and I can’t begin to know what they’re feeling, but we will ensure to investigate this accident and if there is anything the County Council could have done to prevent this. That’s what I will be fighting for.”
