VIDEO: Residents’ shock at body discovery on their estate

Police cordoned off an area of grass between Westfield Lane and Parliament Road at around 7.30pm last night after it was alleged a dog walker had discovered a body in a hedgerow.

The area was quickly cordoned off and a crime scene tent was erected.

Hundreds of people gathered at the scene, with many looking on in disbelief.

Margaret Siddall, who lives on nearby Salisbury Road, told Chad at the scene: “I’m absolutely shocked, I just can’t believe it.

“I wouldn’t usually come out of the house, but everybody is out here.

“It’s very open on this patch of grass, lots of people walk their dogs here.

“I only sat out a few hours ago wishing I knew where that young girl was.

“It must be horrendous for the parents, I just feel so sorry for them. I’ve got two young granddaughters myself.

“Speaking for everybody around here, our thoughts and condolences are with the family and that poor little girl.”

Another resident from nearby Raleigh Road, who did not want to be named, was equally as shocked.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it, especially when it’s at the bottom of your street.

“I only found out that she was missing earlier today. I came past at about 7.20pm and saw men in suits, at first I thought it was people from the council, then I saw the police were there and the tent was up.

“It’s just unbelievable.”

Amber went missing from her home on Bosworth Street on Saturday evening, after storming out following a row with her parents over chores.

Her family were informed last night that had a body was found, and although no formal identification has taken place, the search for the Queen Elizabeth’s Academy pupil has been called off.

A post-mortem on the body is expected today.
