Video: Police are hunting robbers who threatened to shoot a Mansfield newsagent in a terrifying raid this morning

A Mansfield newsagent told of his terrifying ordeal when armed robbers threatened him and his colleague with what looked like a gun before escaping with cash and hundreds of pounds of cigarettes this morning.

Two masked men walked up to Slacks News at the Rosemary Centre in Walkden Street and threatened owner Nasaar Khan with what he thought was a pistol

Mr Khan, 39, said he had just opened up when the incident happened at around 6am.

He said: “The men came up to the counter and told me they wanted the money and the cigarettes in the display.

“I thought they were joking, but one of them showed me a gun.

”He said put the cigarettes in here or I’ll shoot you.

“I was frightened he was going to shoot me. I was more than terrified.

“The other man came round the back with a bag and said put all the money and cigarettes in the bag.”

“You don’t expect people to have guns in this country.”

The raiders ran off with their haul in the direction of Union Street.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later and he area around the shop was cordoned off.

Detectives are checking CCTV footage to try and identify the men.

Nottinghamshire Police Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen two men, believed to be in their late teens, acting suspiciously in the area shortly before the incident.

One was described by Mr Khan as around 6ft and the other shorter and fatter.
