Video: Mansfield WW2 veteran relives D-Day landings

On Friday leaders, veterans and grateful members of the public gathered across the world to honour the sacrifice of members of the armed forces during the D-Day landings.

And Ladybrook Library was honoured to host six of the brave Second World War ex-servicemen.

Roger Maywood (90), of Mansfield, served in the army’s Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

His job was to help service tanks and other vehicles during the inland push after the Normandy beaches were taken by the Allied forces on 6th June, 1944.

Roger talked to Chad about his experiences in the days after the invasion, some of which were both extraordinary and horrifying.
