VIDEO: Mansfield cancer survivor in TV pride awards

Jess, 28, appeared on the network's Central News programme as one of only four finalists out of hundreds of nominees who is up for an award on Friday.

The woman who lives in Rainworth has fought multiple brain tumours all her life and is praised for her 'exceptional' fundraising efforts, so far topping £23,000.

Since May last year, Jess and her family have been holding charity events for their foundation, Stop Brain Tumours for a Pound, including a world-record breaking event in September.

They have so far raised more than £23,000 in only six months and the cancer survivor, who is undergoing continuous treatment, is one of only four finalists to be picked from hundreds of entries in the region.

Mike French, Jess’s dad, said: “We went the whole way and we didn’t finish last, even though we didn’t initially think we would finish at all.”

On the Pride of Britain nomination he said: “We were very surprised and very pleased.”

In her interview with ITV, Jess said: “I want to try to help other people who are going through having brain tumours.

“I want the money to help to find some cure to help other people so they don’t have to go through so much pain.

“I’m hoping at the end of this most children, as well as adults, will get a cure for this, so it won’t happen to a lot of people.”

SBTFAP’s net event will be a charity dinner held at Coxmoor Golf Club on November 26.

Prices are £35 per head including meal and entertainment.
