VIDEO: Mansfield bars could be named best in Nottinghamshire at Best Bar None awards

Three Mansfield venues could be named as the best bar in the county, after they were shortlisted for an award yesterday (September 15).

Rush Late Bar, After Dark and Andwhynot are the highest scoring Mansfield venues for the Best Bar None awards - putting them forward for the Nottinghamshire judges’ choice award in October.

The announcement was made at a ceremony at the civic centre yesterday afternoon, which celebrated 18 accredited pubs, clubs and bars in the Mansfield area.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mick Barton, said: “All our accredited pubs, clubs and bars have demonstrated extremely high standards in the Best Bar None scheme and shown that they can offer Mansfield’s residents and visitors a safe and enjoyable night life.

“This reinforces our Purple Flag status, which not only recognises that Mansfield has a well run night time economy, but also helps to change perceptions of the area.

“I would like to congratulate everyone, who received an award today, as your accreditation shows your commitment to driving up standards within the alcohol industry.

“I am extremely proud to have worked with all our venues over recent difficult years and I would like to acknowledge their hard work and perseverance in making a night out in Mansfield such a positive experience.”

Accredited venues must meet a nationally agreed set of standards, which include carrying out regular security reviews, pro-actively dealing with intoxicated people and having a robust proof of age policy.

The Best Bar None scheme, which is funded by Nottinghamshire’s PCC and Nottinghamshire County Council, is administered by Mansfield District Council’s licensing team.

Both residents and visitors are invited to vote for their favourite drinking venue in the county, which will go towards the ‘public vote’ award.

The awards ceremony will take place on October 26.
