Video: Kirkby street cordoned off after fatal stabbing

A woman has died after she was stabbed in an incident in Kirkby last night and a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police were called to reports of a fight at an address in Gleneagles Drive at around 11pm on Saturday July 16.

The victim, believed to be in her 40s, had suffered stab wounds and was attended to by paramedics.

She died on the way to hospital.

Police said they were not naming the woman pending her formal identification.

A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with stab wounds. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who witnessed or knows anything about the incident.

Gleneagles Drive was cordoned off by police this afternoon as detectives investigated the incident.

Neighbours on adjoining streets said they were shocked by what had happened.

One man who did not want to be identified, said: “We got home at 1am and there were three or four police cars in the street and it was all taped up. You hear about things like this happening but you never think it will happen on your own street. It is very sad.”
