She said: “I was completely blown away by the response from each of the schools and every one of the kids who took part this year and they certainly didn’t make it an easy competition to judge.”

The judging was done by Gloria along with Stephen Thirkill, newsdesk editor at Chad.

Gloria added: “It took Stephen and I ages to choose Dennita’s entry as the winner but in the end her card ticked all of the boxes and it looks absolutely stunning now it’s been printed.

“All of the kids let out a huge cheer when I announced Dennita as the winner and she had the biggest smile I’ve ever seen while her Dad couldn’t have looked more proud.”

As soon as Gloria became MP she said she broke with the tradition of using the standard Parliamentary Christmas card and because she wanted to showcase the talent of local school children from across the constituency.

The competition was launched six weeks ago inviting every primary and infant school in Ashfield & Eastwood to take part and help design her personal Christmas card.

Dennita’s magical Christmas design will appear on the front of thousands of Gloria’s cards, which will be sent out to a number of local people, organisations, businesses, MPs and councillors across Ashfield, Eastwood and Westminster, including the Prime Minister.

Dennita was presented with a copy of her card, a certificate and two special gifts from the House of Commons.

Gloria added: “I have to say a huge thanks to Sutton-based firm Crystal Martin who have been wonderfully supportive and generous by sponsoring the card competition once again.

“Quite simply without their backing it just wouldn’t be possible to hold this competition each year and for that I can’t thank them enough.”
