Friends and Family are distraught as Melanie’s disappearence approaches a fortnight, with no contact from her whatsoever, and Police say it’s particularly worrying that someone so active on social media wouldn’t have their phone with them.

She was last seen on October 19 at her flat in Stoneyford Road, Sutton and her best friend, Emma Walker, said the 22-year-old would be devestated to know her two biggest fans, Tyler, nine, and Luke, five, are asking where she is.

The mum, 28, from Mansfield, said: “The boys are asking questions, and she wouldn’t want that. She loves them so much.

Tyler tried to text her but she hasn’t got her phone.

“They’re saying ‘Auntie come home.

The friend, a support worker, has been close with Melanie since they were neighbours eight years ago, and says she’s distraught with every passing day Melanie stays missing.

She added: “I feel it’s real and it’s a bad dream.

“I just want her to come home She knows how much I love her and I hate the thought that she’s out there on her own.

“She’s like my kids’ dad – she’s always there for Christmas and Halloween. She was supposed to be dressing up and going trick or treating with them tonight.

Since she went missing, Nottinghamshire Police has conducted thorouh searches around Sutton Lawn, including diving in the lake there and King’s Mill reservoir.

Searches were stepped up today as volunteers with the ‘Where There’s Hope’ fund co-ordinated a group in the Sutton area.

Kirsty Hannah started the fund when 13-year-old Amber Peat went missing last year, and was later found dead.

Founder Kirsty Brown, 30, started the fund when 13-year-old Mansfield girl Amber Peat went missing. I’ve she’s battled mental illness herself and started the group to organise searches and provide support to young suffering despression.

She added: “When we started searching for Amber we got raised loads of money and we started to notice loads of children go missing and the police are limited in what they can do, so the public can join together to do a wider search.

“We’re meeting in Woodhouse and searching from all the way to Sutton as far away  as Clipstone.

A group of at least a hundred are expected to aid the search and the volunteers are asking for anyone who’s available to come and help, print out poster

Kirsty added: “Anyone who can even print off some posters or even share it on Facebook if they an’t get out please do whatever you can to help trace Melanie. 

A Facebook group called Help Find Melanie Wilson  has emerged in a bid to co-ordinate local efforts to search for the missing woman woman. 

Anyone who can help and has transport is asked to meet at One Stop shop in Woodhouse Road at 1pm to plan groups, which will then be split to conduct searches around different areas.

Pleas go out to missing woman

Melanie is originally from Mansfield and moved to Sutton two years ago and has been living in council accomodation.

She has had low confidence since being unemployed but friends said her wellbeing was improving after she took part time voluntary work.

“She’s being doing much better than she had been,” said friend Emma. “She had started volunteering at a charity shop and it made her feel so strong, so its particularly strange that she’s gone missing.”

Family ‘distraught’ as search reaches a fortnight

Nottinghamshire Police is in touch with Melanie’s family as their search continues for the young woman.

A special operation was underway in Sutton Lawn as divers combed the lake for several days. Officers are now handing out leaflets and plea for anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward.

Mansfield’s district commander, Insp. Nick Butler said: “Melanie’s family is distraught and really worried about her, as we all are. One can only imagine how difficult it would be to not have any contact with a loved one for this long.

“We’re urging anyone who has seen her to get in touch. That one piece of information may help to find her.

“There’s no indication as to why she may have gone. She also hasn’t got her mobile phone with her, which is concerning for someone who is so active on social media.

“She is not in any kind of trouble, all we need to know is that she is safe and well.

“If you are seeing this appeal Melanie, then please contact us to let us know you are safe.

“Please just pop into a local police station, doctors’ surgery or hospital so that we know you’re okay.”

Melanie is described as white, about 5ft 6ins tall, with blonde hair and is of a slim build.
