Mystery surrounds the death of a 43-year-old woman at a house in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Monday (February 8).

Police are investigating and a man has been detained in hospital while being treated for injuries.

Crime scene investigators have been combing the scene since Monday morning when the body of a 43-year-old woman was discovered.

Neighbours say they are shocked by the incident.

One resident of Ridge Close said: “We’ve no idea what happened. There’s rumours floating around but we don’t know.”

Another neighbour has laid flowers outside the house.

She said: “It’s awful what’s happened. It’s very sad.

“I knew of her and always said hi to her.”

“I’m very sorry that she passed away.”

Nottinghamshire officers described the case as a ‘sudden death’, but also said a man is being detained.

A spokesperson added: “Officers are investigating a sudden death in Ridge Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield. A body of a 43-year-old woman was discovered at the house in Ridge Close on Monday.

“A 43-year-old man is currently detained at hospital as officers investigate the circumstances.

“He is under-going medical treatment with regards the same incident.”

“Enquiries are on-going and no others persons are sought in relation to the incident.”
