Festivalgoers gathered in the ruins of the ancient monument to hear groups including DH Lawrence & The Vaudeville Skiffle Show and The Marc Block Trio play.

David Amos, from Ashfield District Council, which organised the event, described it as ‘stupendous’.

“It was great,” he said.

“We had the Black Pig Border Morris Dancers and the Marc Block Trio - he was brilliant.

“We also had local people such as Strummin’ Johnny Carey and DH Lawrence and The Vaudeville Skiffle Show.”

This is the first folk festival organised by the group - and they are hoping to host another one at the church next year.

The church and church yard has just had over £300,000 of Heritage Lottery Funds recently spent on it to help preserve it for the future and enhance the site for visitors to enjoy.
