Video: Amore singer praises Cantamus Choir at fundraising concert

‘A wonderful night for a wonderful woman’ is how talented mezzo-soprano singer, Victoria Gray, has described performing at a fund raising concert held for Mansfield’s Cantamus Choir founder Pamela Cook.

Former Cantamus member, Victoria, took to the stage with last weekend to raise money for a memorial sculpture in honour of Pamela, who died in July 2013.

Victoria tweeted: ‘Wonderful night for a wonderful woman! @TopCantamus were sensational! :)’

The money raised from the sell out concert will commission the bust, which is hoped to have a permanent place in Mansfield’s Palace Theatre, and ensure Pamela’s legacy lives on.

Sheila Haslam, secretary for the choir, said: “The concert went absolutely wonderfully. The girls sang lovely and the Queen Elizabeth Hall is just excellent, it is such a lovely venue.

“It was really lovely to see Victoria again after eight years since she left Cantamus, she made a few new acquaintances as well as rekindling old ones and hopes to stay in the area for a while longer.

“Paul Bacon did an excellent job of compèring as he always does.

“It was truly an excellent evening.

“It has given the sculpture fund a welcome boost.

“We hope to repeat it in another way in the future.”

The choir is now looking forward to the official memorial concert for Pamela, which will see former and present members, sing together on 5th July and pay respect to Pamela’s contribution to the choir and musical world.
