A BLAZE at a Chinese restaurant in Alfreton is being treated as arson.

The fire service and police were called to China Town, on the A61 Kings Street, at about 10.30am on Tuesday.

A joint investigation between the police and fire service is underway but the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.

The A61 was been closed for over six hours as firefighters tackled the blaze on the first floor of the building. There are no reported injuries at this stage.

Four fire engines were needed at the incident.

A spokesman from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters used two jets, one hose reel and four breathing apparatus kits to deal with the fire. A structural engineer was also called to the scene.
