The Clinical Commissioning Groups in Mansfield and Ashfield and Newark and Sherwood successfully bid for £1.65m from NHS England which will enable important changes to be made to health services locally.

The money has been earmarked for schemes such as setting up a GP-led service at the Minor Injuries/Urgent Care Centre at Newark Hospital and creating an ‘innovation fund’ to support GP practices in Mansfield and Ashfield.

This will aid the development of ways of working that improve access to advice and treatment for patients needing urgent care and people with long-term conditions.

The cash will also help create a single front door at King’s Mill Hospital, which will help prioritise the most acutely-ill patients at A&E from those who need other urgent care services.

Dr Judy Jones, clinical lead for Mansfield and Ashfield CCG, said: “This funding is a real boost to our ambitions to change the way people access health services when they have an urgent problem.

“We would like to support developments that give better access to general practice services, supported by an extended range of professionals from pharmacy, therapy and nursing services, ensuring that patients see the right people first time for advice, and where necessary treatment.”

The funding has come from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund for projects that lead to improvement through innovation in health services.
