A 34-YEAR-OLD Kirkby man has died after being hit by a train on the Robin Hood line between Mansfield and Sutton on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were called to King’s Mill Barrow crossing between Sutton Parkway and Mansfield railway stations following a report of man being struck by a train.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police also attended the incident, which was reported to British Transport Police at 4.35pm.
Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A BTP spokeswoman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and at this time appears to have been a tragic accident.
“Our thoughts are with the mans family and friends. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has also been notified.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The train involved was the 3.55pm Nottingham to Mansfield service. Lines were handed back to Network Rail at around 5.30pm.
