UPDATE: Community comes together for Heanor mum’s little angels

Friends, family and strangers have pulled together to help the young daughters of Abbie Chambers

The 21-year-old mother from Heanor was killed in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday, February.

And since a fundraising page was started online to help little Elouise, three, and Eva, two, it has not only met target of £2,000 but generous donors have doubled the figure within only three days.

The girls’ father Dominic Riley, 20, a graphic designer from Mickleover, said he was touched to see so much support for the girls.

He added: “I’m sure the girls will be so thankful, and I’ll make sure they never forget everyone’s generosity and how much everyone loved their Mummy.”

The fundraising page was started by Vicki, a local business woman touched by the story. She added: Having a daughter the same age as one of Abbie’s daughters brought it home - this really could happen to anyone.

“I cannot believe that within 12 hours we hit our target of £2,000. Watching hundreds of people rally together has really restored my faith in people, there are a lot of good people out there.

“We will be keeping the fund open until the end of February, to ensure everyone who wishes to donate has the opportunity.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a £1 or £1000, ever penny will count towards helping Abbie’s two princesses.”

Abbie was riding pillion on the back of a motorcycle when her fatal crash took place on Wednesday. Two other bikes and a car were involved in the accident in the A610 near Eastwood. The three other drivers were unhurt and Abbie’s friend who was riding the bike is said to be recovering well from injuries.

The community has offered hundreds of comments since a page honouring Abbie appeared on Facebook.

Shivanna Maya said on the site: “No one deserves to pass at such a young age when the have so much to look forward to. My thoughts are will all of those that know her, can’t imagine the stress and pain they all must be going through, especially her little ones...”

Kira-Beth Haynes said: “21 is no time to die! I don’t know this young lady but feel like she’s been ripped from this earth. My thoughts go out the family and especially those two girls. You have a guardian angel watching over you.

Michelle Hodgett said: “Thanks for always being there for me thanks for always taking me in when I got kicked out. Thanks for being you! Love you Abbie sleep tight my angel.”

Stephen Clark said: “RIP Abbie my thoughts to your family Abbie they loved you so much since you came into this world.”

Tesco employees have been organising an internal collection for Abbie’s family.

A spokesperson at the store said: “Abbie’s mum used to work here and a number of the staff knew her well so there has been a collection for the family.”
