Eifion Munroe Watson, 21, of Stillwell Gardens, admitted driving without insurance and without a license on December 29 last year.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, told the court police officers watched Watson get out of the car on Sandy Lane and make off towards Redlands School.

Around 15 minutes later another car pulled up and the defendant got out and approached officers who were waiting by the abandoned car.

The court heard that Watson had amassed a total of £1,020 in outstanding court costs and fines for driving offences, affray and assault.

Magistrates fined him £160 with a £20 victim surcharge for the driving offences, but did not order costs because of Watson’s limited means.

They also reduced the bill he owed the court to £785 and made a suspended committal warrant which obliges him to pay £20 per month or go to prison for 20 days.
